about Indira
Hi! I’m Indira.
I’m a Harlem-based artist, poet, event planner, and social worker. I am a boricua and a cancer sun, so you can expect to get emotional when we hang.
I believe that all human beings are innately creative, and that our collective creativity has the power to reshape the world. My mission is to help others tap into that power.
my why
-
Art is a tool we wield to hone our innate human creativity. Most people do not consider themselves to be creative. However, it is a shared instinct that we can use to imagine a better world for ourselves and others, thus enabling us to build a path towards that imagined future.
-
We have been told that utopia is impossible, but the people who have sold us this lie are the very ones profiting off of that belief. For a moment, let’s imagine that everything that we desire is within our grasp. Let’s imagine what it would take to get there. How can we possibly know what steps to take if we don’t know where we are going? The first step: imagining what could be.
-
Often reserved for the divine or the mere geniuses, we have somehow conceded that we lay no claim to the gift of creation, allowing others to shape our worlds rather than take an active role ourselves. Let’s be honest, those currently in power are not doing a very good job. Instead of ceding that power to the current power brokers, we will harness it ourselves.

Unlike potable water, helium, and or talc, creativity is a resource with infinite supply. Unlike petroleum or platinum, each additional hand that reaches into the earth to draw it forth only adds to its abundance. If we are to learn to live in harmony with the earth’s finite materiality, we must first recognize the abundance in our midst and use what is plentiful to make good use of what is not.
